Environmental Technology Shops 'Must prioritise plastic bag use'

The well reputed academic journal for environmentalists covered Supreme Creations' response on how the UK could go further in terms of cutting plastic bag usage.

Excerpt of article: British retailers must do more to reduce the number of plastic bags used by their customers, it has been claimed. The UK is lagging behind other European countries when it comes to restricting the use of plastic carrier bags, the Guardian reports.

"However, it is the responsibility of retailers to work with consumers to come up with innovative alternatives to help people switch from environmentally damaging plastic bags”.

Supreme Creations produces "bags for life" for several major supermarket chains. Speaking earlier this week, we spoke about the issue and how it had "dropped off the radar" of some retailers – perhaps due to the economic downturn.

Daily Mail - Banish the Bag Campaign update

The Daily Mail has had a long standing campaign to cut the use of plastic bags with the “banish the bag campaign”. The Daily Mail teamed up with Supreme Creations to launch a high profile campaign for its readers to use cotton and natural reusable bags. As part of the campaign launch The Daily Mail gave its readers the “I'm an eco bag and proud of it” cotton printed bag.

Guardian : "Bag for life" article

The world's largest manufacturer of "bags for life" has warned that the UK is lagging behind other countries after failing to agree a national policy involving an outright ban on plastic bags. Supreme Creations, based in the UK with Indian manufacturing, makes millions of cotton and jute bags every year for retailers such as Tesco, Sainsbury's, Boots, the Co-operative, Debenhams, The Energy Saving trust, Oxfam and Topshop.

Last night after receiving an environmental award from the Prince of Wales's Business in the Community charity, the founder of the company said the "crucial environmental issue" appeared not to be a priority for British retailers and urged them to do more to catch up with international competitors.

Supreme Creations was invited onto the Radio 2 show presented by Jeremy Vine in a topical discussion about bags for life. Callers into the show gave insightful comments about how they use their cotton and canvas bags. The main theme of the show was the reusability of these bags, their usefulness and how often people actually reuse their "bags for life".

HM Government, Business Is Great case study

Supreme Creations has been selected as a case study by Business Is Great. This is the Government’s new programme to help people set up their own businesses, build them up and accelerate growth into new markets. We were selected as an example for other businesses to follow due to our amazing story of growth- our ability to make the most of our “seize-the-moment opportunity.”

They asked us to tell the story of our meteoric expansion following major retailers’ move towards reusable bags for life in 2005, and the growth of our exports to Europe that have made us “a company that epitomises international business.” The article features interviews with our CEO SmrutiSriram, as well as a wonderfully shot video of our offices here in London.

In the run up to the recent General Election, City A.M. asked our CEO, SmrutiSriram, which policies would capture her vote.
